Named one of the “Hottest New Hotel Openings of Summer 2019” by Condé Nast Traveler, the 104-room Huntington Lodge at Pronghorn Resort laid the foundation for a new way to stay in Bend, Oregon. Unlike vacation homes and standard hotels, the Huntington Lodge offers luxury amenities with the perks of a rental house. Plus, the Cascade Mountains as a scenic backdrop. The team at Griffin Construction had the honor of bringing this 60,000 square foot hotel to life. To do it, we used our technical expertise, self-perform capabilities, and cutting-edge engineering requirements.

How we built the Huntington Lodge at Pronghorn Resort

To construct the three-story Huntington Lodge designed by Portland-based firm Ankrom Moisan Architecture, we started with a wood-framed building, a half over crawl space, and a half over concrete slab-on-grade (SOG) construction. Leveraging an existing reinforced lava tube to support the building load, we took advantage of the crawl space to unload the soil’s weight. The skin systems include stone veneer and two-tone prefinished Hardie lap siding.

When building the roof, we initiated the construction on the ground level to increase safety and efficiency. To ensure superior durability and quality, we used a combination of sheet metal, a single-ply thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), and asphalt shingles.

To complete the modern, luxury feel of the Huntington Lodge, we installed high-end finishes. These include full-tile showers, tile flooring, high-end cabinetry and countertops, and the use of upscale hardwoods throughout. As for the amenities, the property includes extensive landscaping, unit pavers, sidewalks, a parking lot, and spas.

The results

A traditional hotel with a modern feel, the Huntington Lodge at Pronghorn Resort invites visitors to enjoy the high desert’s serenity with panoramic views, thoughtful accommodations, and luxury amenities. One hundred four individual rooms offer different sizes and layouts, including options with kitchens, kitchenettes, fireplaces, penthouses, and patios. The hotel is the first-of-its-kind in Bend, Oregon requiring a wide range of construction skills. The complete the luxury feel, the resort includes an adults-only pool with private cabanas.
